Current Itinerary

Our upcoming trip to the Antarctic Peninsula will have the following itinerary:

  • February 5, 2010 – Fly from Bonaire to Aruba (a whopping 80 miles but more difficult than most of our other flights on this trip!)
  • February 6 – Fly from Aruba to Santiago, Chile, arriving Feb. 7.
  • February 7-8 – Explore Santiago
  • February 9-10 – Explore Valparaiso, Chile. Back to Santiago on February 10th.
  • February 11 – Fly to Ushuaia, Argentina with our group, lunch on a catamaran in the Beagle Channel, depart on the National Geographic Explorer.
  • February 12 – At sea – crossing the tumultuous Drake Passage
  • February 13-19 – Exploring the Antarctic Peninsula
  • February 20 – At sea – watching icebergs
  • February 21 – South Orkney Island
  • February 22 – At sea – more icebergs
  • February 23-26 – Circumnavigating South Georgia Island, visiting final resting place of Ernest Shackleton
  • February 27-28 – At sea – time to reflect on what we’ve seen (that’s what they have told us we should do then)
  • March 1 – Port Stanley, Falkland Islands
  • March 2 – More Falkland Islands
  • March 3 – At sea – final time for reflecting and large aquatic mammals
  • March 4 – Disembark at Ushuaia, fly back to Santiago
  • March 5 – Fly to Easter Island (Rapa Nui)
  • March 6-7 – Explore Easter Island
  • March 8 – Return to Santiago
  • March 9 – Recuperate and explore a bit more of Santiago
  • March 10 – Fly to Aruba
  • March 11 – Relax in Aruba
  • March 12 – Fly home to Bonaire from Aruba and then get haircuts after 3 months of letting it all grow (to stay warm)
  • March 13 – Reflect while sleeping in

And beyond March 13th, we presently have no travel plans. Strange, eh? But it will probably take months to sort through our photos and post the nicest ones, as well as write about our journeys.
