The Traveling Richters On the Road Again

August 15th, 2009 at 4:37 pm (AST) by Jake Richter

The case Jake was working on in Dallas settled a few days ago, so instead of spending the next five weeks together in Dallas while Jake worked, The Traveling Richters have instead opted to go traveling together and make up for the many months Jake has been apart from the rest of the family in the U.S. for business and research.

The original travel options included Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, Australia, Greece, Turkey, Russia, South Africa, and Scandinavia. However, we opted for something more unusual… a road trip through middle America.

On Monday morning we set forth from Dallas on an exploration of parts of northeastern Texas, northern Arkansas, the entertainment Mecca of Branson, Missouri, Tenneesse, and ultimately the Atlanta area of Georgia. None of us has previously spent any real amount of time in these states, so we hope to see and learn all sorts of different things.

Here’s our itinerary:

  • August 15-17 – Dallas, Texas
  • August 17-18 – Texarkana, Texas
  • August 18-19 – Fort Smith, Arkansas
  • August 19-26 – Branson, Missouri
  • August 26-28 – Little Rock, Arkansas
  • August 28-31 – Memphis, Tennessee
  • August 31 – September 4 – Nashville, Tennessee
  • September 4-6 – Chattanooga, Tennessee
  • September 6-8 – Braselton, Georgia
  • September 8-12 – Atlanta (Buckhead), Georgia

If any of you reading this are in any of these areas, or en route between these places and have time to show us cool and interesting things around your neck of the woods, please let us know. We’d be happy to reciprocate with a meal at a restaurant you’d recommend.

True Colors Concert in Texas

June 22nd, 2008 at 7:05 pm (AST) by Jake Richter

The Traveling Richters are on the road again, albeit for just about a week. Today found us in Plano learning from friend at Texas Instruments how DLP technology works to put crisp images on our large screen TVs and now we’re at SuperPages.com Center for the True Colors Tour concert featuring Cyndi Lauper.

We’re presently waiting to participate in something called a Meet & Greet involving Cyndi, whose birthday it coincidentally happens to be today. We are prepared with Bonaire-related gifts for her.

New Travel Plans Evolve – Galapagos, Nova Scotia, and Machu Picchu

June 2nd, 2008 at 5:27 pm (AST) by Jake Richter

The travel bug is never quite distant here in The Traveling Richters’ household.

We’ve just confirmed a trip starting in mid-November 2008 that will start us in Quito, Ecuador for a view days before we fly out to the Galapagos Islands to see the places that gave Charles Darwin his “Eureka!” moment about the idea of evolution and natural selection. Ten days later we get to Lima, Peru, and from there set forth on an expedition to see the high altitude village of Cuzco, and the even higher altitude Incan ruins of Machu Picchu before a return to Lima, and then ultimately home to Bonaire.

Prior to then we have a one week trip to Texas this month to see a concert and study the Alamo in San Antonio.

And we’re in the throes of trying to figure out exactly what all we want to do on a trip that starts us in Nova Scotia in early October 2008, and lands us in New Hampshire to visit family later in the month (hoping to catch some stunning fall foliage along the way, of course). Any suggestions or ideas would be welcome. One thing definitely on the list is to go out on the water with a Maine lobster man and learn more about the business of catching lobsters, firsthand.

We are also planning on hooking up with friends at a conference/retreat in Tucson, Arizona over President’s Day Weekend in February 2009.

Beyond that my tentative court and work schedule looks pretty full, so we’ll have to steal time for other trips as such time becomes available.

More details are in the Current Itineraries link at right.
